Our 17 Ignite Coalition member plans span the United States and Canada. Individually, we’re focused on our local communities. Together, we forge connections and spark ideas to bring new energy home. Operating as a voluntary, unincorporated business league, Ignite Coalition acts as a hub of innovation and a catalyst for progress. We’re dedicated to fostering meaningful collaboration and serving as a trusted, friendly, and open space for participating Blues and their leaders to explore forward-thinking solutions. We offer member plans a unique platform to collaborate and thrive in an evolving healthcare landscape. Ignite Coalition serves as a forum to discuss broad strategic issues, share insights across our organizations, and experiment with innovative ideas to enhance the services in our individual plans.

1948
A group of 20 leaders from 12 prepaid medical care plans in the Rocky Mountains and Pacific Coast formed the Western Conference.
1952
Designed as “a forum to exchange ideas and information,” the Western Conference began holding annual meetings with nationally recognized speakers.
1982
The Western Conference held our first operations conference—creating a space for connection and collaboration for member plans to solve day-to-day problems.
2023
The Western Conference rebranded to Ignite Coalition to reflect our wide-ranging reach and the trailblazing impact of our work.
